Yaw ring teeth repair up-tower available for more wind turbine types
At WindEurope 2025: CNC Onsite presents up-tower yaw ring repair
At WindEurope (8–10 April), Danish mobile machining expert CNC Onsite will showcase its expanded in-situ yaw ring repair service, now available for a wider range of wind turbine platforms. This cost-effective alternative to full yaw ring replacement reduces downtime, emissions, and safety risks by eliminating the need for crane-based nacelle disassembly.
What does a wind turbine yaw ring do?
The yaw ring aligns rotor blades with the wind for maximum energy output. Over time, gear teeth wear down or break due to sustained loads and wind events. Ignoring damage risks not just lost efficiency but also broader drivetrain failure. Until now, replacing the full yaw ring was the main option — a costly, time-consuming process requiring cranes and extended downtime.
CNC Onsite’s patented repair method restores yaw rings in days instead of weeks, at a fraction of the cost of full replacement. Using its portable precision machine, CNC Onsite precisely extracts and replaces worn yaw teeth, restoring the gear’s function with millimeter accuracy. This concept can be seen at WindEurope 2025 in Copenhagen, 8-10 April.
Because the repair takes place inside the tower, it is independent of weather conditions. The nacelle stays intact, improving technician safety while avoiding potential blade damage from disassembly.
CNC Onsite’s technology is proven in the field, with over 100 new yaw ring segments (600 teeth) installed on offshore and onshore turbines. The modular portable machine was designed for easy transport and reassembly up-tower, making precision repairs possible even in tight nacelle spaces.
Live Demonstration at WindEurope
Visitors to WindEurope (8–10 April) can see CNC Onsite’s yaw ring repair solution in action. The live demonstration will highlight how precision machining can extend turbine lifetimes and reduce maintenance costs.
